This garlicky white bean hummus has a Creole kick. We love thinking outside of the box, and this recipe does just that. Navy beans serve as an excellent substitute for chickpeas due to their creamy texture and neutral nutty flavor. We took that substitute just a step further by adding in some Creole flare by using Blue Runner® New Oreans Spicy Navy Beans and serving with Zapp’s® chips! It’s great for game day or anytime you’re feeling hummus-y.
In a blender combine garlic, kosher salt, lemon juice, beans, tahini, 3 tablespoons of olive oil, mayonnaise, and cumin. Blend until the ingredients form a creamy texture. If the mixture is a little thick, add cold water one tablespoon at a time until desired consistency is reached.
In a skillet, heat 1/4 cup of olive oil over medium heat. Fry the onion slices until they become dark and crispy. Strain and set aside.
To serve, pour the hummus into a bowl and top with fried onions. We recommend drizzling olive oil, a squeeze of lemon, and a sprinkle of Aleppo pepper.
Pair with fresh vegetables, pita chips, or your favorite potato chip. We serve ours with Zapp’s® Spicy Cajun Crawtators.
